The Tawny Palmfly, Elymnias panthera panthera (Fabricius)

This is a common insect found in vicinities where its food plant is abundant: palms and rotan. However, it is an insect of the shades like many satyriids and is less common than E. hypermnestra in occurence.

This female was circling a medium-sized palm by the river and settled for a minute. Except for the slightly more buff coloured borders visible in flight (and lacking the metallic blue apical band), it can be confused with a worn out E. hypermnestra. 02 November 2013 @ 11:37.
