In flight, this butterfly looks like a Chocolate Tiger and that was what I thought it was until it settled on the tarmac: the way it rested its wings betrayed it immediately as danaids do not normally open their wings while resting. As with many nymphalids, this one reacted to the camera's flash but once disturbed, came back repeatedly to the same spot. Above all photos taken from a hill station on 5 Jan 2014.
