Taractrocera archias quinta (Swinhoe)

The genus Taratroctera is among the smallest of the Hesperiidae. This butterfly is instantly recognisable by its fused spotting on the uppersides of its forewings. It has orange spotting instead of cream for T. ardonia. This is however, not a common insect. Where it occurs, it is locally common, usually on verdures fringing public parks and villages.

Taractrocera ardonia lamia (Evans)

This very tiny insect was photographed at the wilder part of the public park in Raub on a grassy patch early in the morning at 10:30. It can be readily recognised by its creamy white markings on its dark brownish black wings, key to its identification compared to others of its genus with yellow or orange markings.

Above pictures 08 Jan 2015 @ 10:51. They tend to be commoner when the grasslands are lushed-up by the rains and are to be found sunning themselves on sunny mornings during the wet season. Uncommon on drier months and tends to be localised in distribution.
