The White-headed Batwing, Atrophaneura sycorax egertoni (Distant)

This is a distinctive Batwing, having a creamy white head and yellow abdomen which is instantly recognisable even in flight. The female are rather large, almost the size of a female Troides and are sometimes seen visiting flowering bushes later in the afternoon. They usually fly at a certain height around the understorey of forests and never puddle. All species of Atrophaneura display seasonal fluctuation in abundance and are sometimes missing from their usual localities for a long period before reappearing again in abundance.

The Golden Birdwing, Troides aeacus malaiianus (Fruhstorfer)

This male was photographed visiting a hibiscus shrub along the edge of an Orang Asli village. It can be easily distinguished from the others by the black-dusted submarginal edge in space 2, 3 & 4 on the hindwing (see illustration below). The male is rather dimunitive in size in comparison to T. helena (compare it to the size of the pompom hibiscus bloom).
