The Common Faun, Faunis canens arcesilas (Stichel)

This is a common insect of the undergrowth where ginger plants abound. It has unusually coloured blue turquoise eyes which is also seen in the Genus Melanocyma.

A slightly smaller species is Faunis gracilis (Butler), commoner and are found in the same localities.
