The Royal Assyrian, Terinos terpander robertsia (Butler)

This is common butterfly frequenting moist spots along a forest path or rock quarries and often times, they are found singly in the earlier part of the morning. It is a nervous butterfly and is rather restless as it flutters and skits around the same spot for some time.

Females have a tendency to keep to the darker understoreys, often perched upside down on broad leaves. Every now and then, they come out to greet the sun. They are recognisable by the lesser patch of violet on the uppersides of the wings: 30 July 2016 @ 14:33
